Beyond excited!

Brooke was just giddy as she went to bed last night, woke up this morning and went through our morning routine - she could NOT be any more excited that this is the first day of Kindergarten.

We waited for the bus (in the rain) and then a little girl down the street in the 5th grade, Maddie, introduced herself and helped Brooke cross the street to get on the bus. I was able to get her to look back so that I could take a picture. Then I said, "Have a great day!" She was too far onto the bus to have heard me, but the bus driver responded with, "Thanks I will - you do the same!" So at least I was able to give someone well wishes for the day...even if it wasn't the person I intended the message for. (and it gave me a small chuckle as I walked away from the bus)

I had a friend call who dropped off her son this morning and said that Brooke was standing in line with her class still SO EXCITED to be there. I was very thankful to hear that.

Daddy's been a little bit more emotional about his "baby" going off to Kindergarten. I think I'll be sad when Lincoln goes and I'm home by myself, but Brooke is just too excited for me to be anything but excited for her.

I can't wait for her stories this afternoon. Mike and I gave her a special journal with pocket folders in it so that each day she can record her favorite things of the day and also keep any special work or notes in it. At first she was very concerned that she wouldn't be able to remember everything to write it all down. After I reassured her that she didn't have to write down everything from the day she seemed relieved.
Last comment - After I put the boys down for nap (boy, is it quiet around here!) I went into Brooke's room to clean up the evidence that Clayton had played with her things. As I was picking up I found that on her desk was a piece of paper that she got during her preschool's bus safety week - rules for the bus. I smiled as I thought about her intentionality to pull out the sheet and mentally prepare herself for what she'd need to do today.
